"Flounder, flounder in the sea,
Come, I pray thee, here to me.
For my wife, good Ilsabil,
Wills not as I'd have her will.""Well, what does she want, now?" said the flounder.
"Alas," said he, "she wants to be like unto God."
"Go to her, and you will find her back again in the pig-stye."
And there they are still living to this day.
The Fisherman and His Wife, Grimm's Fairy Tales.
Characteristics

Joachim de Newton is a well-built young man, standing at a breadth under 5'9" tall and several feet wide at the shoulders with his broad shoulder span. His face is neatly trimmed, exposing high and rounded cheek-bones, a strong jaw-line and slightly larger than average ears. He shows little sign of aging in his face, with youthful features and expressive green eyes that show little hint of mirth and amusement. His eyebrows are slightly bushy and tend to give away when he's in thought as one of them rises and falls against a large forehead. His head is covered in a mop of black hair that comes down to the base of his neck, cut off in a straight line, as the thick neck plunges in a solid and large shoulders and torso.
While he is a Lord and a Knight, Joachim doesn't quite dress to the position. In recognizing the charity of his home and position, his tunics are clean but not new, well tended to and maintained and favoring the dark colors of his home. Leather ties hold on the sides of the tunic, keeping it closed tight, while cloth or leather breeches usually cover large legs that support his build.
Among the many things that Newton is known for is the river that runs through her. The River Wylie provides well for the town, and it's why many of the de Oxbow family stayed, even as they took the Newton family name. As the second born son of Sir Gwydyn ap Iago and Lady Alaw of Newton, Joachim de Newton is less than a year the junior to Gwion de Newton. Joachim grew up in the same pious way as his brother, learning that charity begins at home - and often when he was fishing, most of the fish he brought in were divided among the village to help feed all. It is this kind of charity that Joachim had grown accustomed to, and when he left Newton to start to train to be a knight, he thought that this would extend out into the world at large. He was terribly mistaken.
Outside of the Newton stronghold and as a squire, he learned that people distrusted his home. As many families and towns were learning to accept and adapt to the Pagan society, though still requiring their conversion to Christianity before marrying in, the Newtons were far more strict and distrustful. This led to many a brawl between Joachim and other squires, especially those of the Pagan houses. Eventually, he learned to hide his distrust of the Pagan families and knights and turned his attentions to games - developing strategies to use on the field in his mind as he moved the pieces on the Tafl board.
While squiring at a tournament in 510, Joachim was among those that witnessed Arthur Pendragon draw forth the Sword from the Stone, and was humbled as he took to his knee to swear his oath to the new King of Britons. With a new and promised king in the throne, Joachim there himself further into promoting his homeland and it's fidelity - travelling about Salisbury to not only spread the Roman Christian cause of his home, but to draw relations and entreaties between other Christian communities and his brother's home.
He was wounded at the Battle of Terrabil, and after coalescing, was sent back into the field. After serving for several months in the north lands, Joachim was part of a law patrol in Up Avon when he heard of Gwion's venture and capture in Dorset, and was making his way south from Up Avon when he learned of his brother's death at the hand of the Dorsets. Devastated and angry, the determined knight returned home to Newton to resume his position among the Household and to help guide his home with faith and the hopes that he could fill Gwion's large boots.

- Joachim was quite often the person people met most from Newton, as Newton citizens do not get out much. Perhaps you've run across him in his travels and are curious about him or Newton.
- Fishing! He ain't very good at it, but damned if Joachim doesn't like to fish. And we're talking about the get knee deep in the water, drag a net, or spear type fishing.
- Gaming - There's always a good board game to be enjoyed. If you were one that he regularly played Tafl or Fox and Geese with to help shore up his skills, cool.
- Devout Roman Christian - Joachim is firmly embedded in the faith, and would like to know others that are as pious. Or Pagans that he made have had strong debates with over the merits of converting to the faith.
- Spare heir - As the spare to Gwion, maybe you know Joachim because you are likewise a spare or second borne and discussed the freedoms that you got over your older brother. And now he's the heir.
- Charity - Joachim is famous for his generosity (16); maybe he helped out with things in one of your homes, assisted in a time of need or disaster, or just offered you a hand should it ever be needed?
- The Irish - Ugh, can barely stand those potato eaters. Did we gripe about them together a few times while on patrol or such?
- The Stout - Sir Joachim is a burly build (Siz 16) at 5'9" and 180 pounds that is pretty solidly put together.
- Summer Tournament 514 - Participated in the Joust, Lost in the first round to his future brother by marriage, Niclas de Horton.
