Arian de Laverstock was so named after the goddess of fertility and the ever-changing moon Arianrhod. She is the only daughter of Lord Sir Galalloc de Laverstock, steward of House Laverstock and a battlefield knight. Her mother died in childbirth, bringing her twin brothers into the world and leaving Galalloc a widower with five sons and one daughter. Having little understanding of how to raise a girl properly without his wife's guidance, Arian was treated more like a son than a daughter throughout much of her youth.

When Arian was five years old, she was already chasing her brothers into the training yard. She was often pushed aside to watch her brothers practice, but her older brother Lainn was always more willing to draw Arian into their swordplay. He would duel the young Laverstock girl with wooden swords until she was old enough to wield a blank. He was even kind enough to allow her to win now and then, and Arian gained more favor from her other brothers and eventually accepted as one of the Laverstock boys.

Arian was a very young child when her father became steward. The Lord of Laverstock had died, and his son Trystan was far from ready to take the responsibility his bloodline earned him. Galalloc retired from the field of battle to run the household, and it suited him. He looked after Trystan and his sister Josette as if they were his own children.

When Arian was about ten years old, her brother Lainn began his time as a squire. She was rife with jealousy, and began to pester her father with her own desires to become a squire and a knight. Her father refused her at each turn, stuck in his old ways that women are not knightly material. Lainn defied their father, and started to train Arian the same skills he was being taught as a squire. Eventually, their father found out about this, and it was what it took to have him relent and find Arian a proper knight to squire with — someone firm, who would not let his daughter get into dangerous situations. Arian was twelve when she was squired with Sir Gawall.

Arian had always been very dedicated to her faith as a Pagan. She celebrated each feast day with fervor, and prayed to Arianrhod, the Morrigan, and Cernunnos daily. She left offerings to Arianrhod at each full moon, and marked her forehead with the symbol of the Morrigan in battle, and made offerings to Cernunnos and his faeryfolk. It was known throughout the region that Arian was a passionate believer, and that might have been why she was chosen as the Maiden for the Beltaine rites when she was seventeen years of age.

Arian was knighted at the end of Autumn in the year 513 after participating in many skirmishes with the Saxons.

Has left the area on quest for the Earl with her betrothed, Kamron.

She may not be a Guineverian beauty for the ages, but there is a freshness to her features, a youthful glow, that makes her stand out. Her blue eyes shine brightly beneath narrow, arched brows of dark brown. Those brows are a match for the brunette waves that crown her head, flowing down just beyond her shoulders when they are not bound up in plaits. Her nose is straight and dainty, and her lips ready-made for smiling. The upper lip is a little narrow, but the lower is full, and they split readily to reveal the teeth behind. Her cheeks are appled neatly, and her forehead high, but it is her jaw that defines her face, a strong, pugnatious line that sets her features and is softened by paired dimples at the fullest extent of her smile.

Distinctive Features

  • Short Hair: For a Lady of this era, Arian has short hair. It is cut at her shoulders, and only ever allowed to grow just a few inches past that. She does this for practical reasons, but it does set her apart from her noble counterparts.

Musical Inspiration

  • Loreena McKennitt - "The Mystic's Dream"

Birds in flight are calling there
Where the heart moves the stones
It's there that my heart is calling
All for the love of you

  • Sick Puppies - "White Balloons"

Someday, love will find you
I'm holding onto white balloons
Up against a sky of doom
Tell me you see them

  • Disturbed - "Remember"

If I can — Remember — To know this will
Conquer me — If I can — Just walk alone
And try to escape — Into me

  • Creedence Clearwater Revival - "Who'll Stop the Rain?"

Long as I remember the rain been comin' down.
Clouds of myst'ry pourin' confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, tryin' to find the sun;
And I wonder, Still I wonder, who'll stop the rain?
