"I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend."

Synopsis

Elder son of Sir Roderic de Woodford and Lady Aurielle de Stapleford, and brother to the Lady Ravenna de Woodford. Where the pair of them were painted these grandiose adventures of their late father, Algernon was able to summon up one memory of the man: His riding off to do battle with the Saxons. It was something the boy never forgot growing up, a fire that inspired him and was stoked by his mother's storytelling that made the man out to be larger than life.

It was the driving point behind the youth, which even the news of his father's death couldn't dampen, the spring in his step as he bounded around outside and play-fought his cousins and friends with stick swords when he was not glued to Ravenna's side. Where his sister abhorred the idea of knighthood, it was Algernon who wanted to follow in his father's footsteps, putting a strain on their otherwise amazing friendship cultivated during their early years that persists to this day.

One shouldn't be surprised to know that Algernon's coming of age (15) to be eligible for squiring was perhaps the most exciting year of his life for the boy. Unfortunately, was to be short-lived. A lesson in horsemanship went awry as the shoeing came loose on one of the hooves, causing a sudden shift in balance during a full gallop. An inexperienced rider coupled with a surprised beast immediately resulted in the latter toppling over, sending the pair of them to the ground in a heap.

Algernon's riding boot had caught in the stirrup, so he was not thrown during the commotion. Instead, several hundred pounds of horseflesh crashed down on the prospective knight's leg, shattering nearly every bone from the shin to the upper thigh. It was very easily one of the most traumatic experiences of his life, and it marked the end of his rise to knighthood before it truly started.

Chirurgery, coupled with a great deal of excellent health and fortitude, ensured that the boy survived this incident. However, he would never be able to move without the use of some crutch, be it a cane or walking stick. No longer did he bound outside and play. Unable to be a hero like his father, the boy turned doubly so to his studies of both the scholarly and of religion. He sought piety as a means to understand himself and to strengthen his resolve through faith. Knowledge so that he might serve his family in another way, sharpening his mind beyond the keenness of any blade as he is groomed to become the seneschal of Woodford manor.

Characteristics

Another young Cymric buck built a bit short and broad; He is slightly pudgy, but it manages quite easily to complement his friendly features and warm demeanor. A crop of sandy blond hair sits upon his head, desperately trying to decide whether it wants to curl or simply rumple in waves with hazel-blue gems to make up his eyes. His skin is fair and entirely unblemished, glowing with health.

His wear consists of the current fashion in linen under- and overtunic in Woodford's crimson and sable, replete with a matching dark crimson-embroidered cloak pinned by simple brooch and boots. He wears a signet ring with the family crest on his left hand.

The man moves with a visible limp and is not seen standing without some kind of crutch, be it a fine cane at social gatherings or an oak walking staff.
