Cordelia had arrived at the Boar's Beard an hour prior to the start of the competition, to give herself some time to mingle with the patrons and calm her nerves. She expected another woman to be her opponent - her built-up confidence falters when she discovers it will be a gentleman instead. A knight, apparently! It is more difficult for a crowd to deduce which was better when the voices are so different in depth! The blonde woman bites her lower lip nervously but she politely nods to Sir Jacen. "Best of luck, Sir Jacen."

Lady de Pitton steps forward and takes a deep breath, then lets her lilting voice leave her lips. It is a Christian hymn familiar to the pious, but pleasant to the ears of strangers as well:

"Take my life and let it be
consecrated, Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days;
let them flow in endless praise,
let them flow in endless praise.

Take my hands and let them move
at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
swift and beautiful for thee,
swift and beautiful for thee.

Take my voice and let me sing
always, only, for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
filled with messages from thee,
filled with messages from thee.

Take my silver and my gold;
not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
every power as thou shalt choose,
every power as thou shalt choose.

Take my will and make it thine;
it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart it is thine own;
it shall be thy royal throne,
it shall be thy royal throne.

Take my love; my Lord, I pour
at thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be
ever, only, all for thee,
ever, only, all for thee."

It is pleasant to the untrained ear, but her voice does waver somewhat. With few high notes, however, there were few opportunities for the lady to make an utter fool of herself. Cordelia finishes with a graceful curtsey before she steps aside for Sir Jacen to take the spotlight.

Sir Jacen applauds Cordelia with verve, the knight truly appreciative of the woman's finer assets. And her voice, too. "Beautiful, my lady. You had them silent, for once," he chortles, to be met with laughter from the crowd who have just finished cheering the lovely Pitton lass. "I shall do my best to be worthy of following!" He steps on stage, adjusting his dark hair for full, glossy effect. Then the knight launches into a bawdy ballad sure to please the entire tavern. It's not just the nature of the tune, either, but the full, rich tenor with which he sings, that seems to win over the crowd.

When it comes time to choose, by applause, the knight wins by a narrow margin.

Failed.
Cordelia checked her modest of 4, she rolled 6.
Success
Cordelia checked her proud of 16, she rolled 6.

Only a few seconds into the ballad, Cordelia can tell she was likely to lose. Her features harden as the crowd becomes absolutely rapt at the handsome knight's equally handsome voice, but her posture remains straight and her gaze fixated ahead. Had he been competing with someone else, she would likely be applauding Sir Jacen's performance with equal vigor, but since he was competing with her… Cordelia simply gives him a small, tight smile. "Well done, Sir Jacen. The match is yours."

Mood plummeting, she does not linger. She stands from her seat and quietly retreats into the crowds milling about outside.

Failed.
Cordelia checked her modest of 4, she rolled 7.
Success
Cordelia checked her proud of 16, she rolled 9.

Temper still frayed after her sound defeat at the hands of a knight during the contest held at the Boar's Beard - a contest she should have won, in her mind - Cordelia only minimally acknowledged her opponent when she arrives to compete in the archery event. It didn't matter that this woman had the well-muscled arms of a seasoned huntress; Cordelia's focus was absolute and on the task at hand. She would not be so easily swayed, this time.

Failed.
Cordelia checked her bow of 13, she rolled 14.
Success
Amalthea makes a check for Aliandra's bow at 17, she rolled 7.

The Pitton's focus instead manages to sway her opponent! The other woman performs admirably, but Cordelia's last arrow hits the bullseye with a loud THUD ringing with finality.
