Knowing that a group of knights who are heirs to prominent vassal knights have gone into Dorset on a reconnoitering mission and are yet to return, Earl Robert has summoned for knights to volunteer for the harsh undertaking that is to infiltrate deep into enemy territory to investigate what happened. A mercenary was hired too, tasked to assist the knights in the event an engagement occurs.

It is night when the riders arrive to a manor in Dorset's south, with heavy rain preventing them from making a faster advance into hostile territory, such as it is. As luck would have it, they seem to be on the approach to a manor in the midst of a sort of gathering, many lit torches against the dark background of a cloudy sky and new moon making this all the more evident.

There are shouts as well, and the sounds of construction tools at work; the smack of the hammer, the scrape of the saw. All of these can be heard over the rainfall.

After the providing some game and food for the Idmiston and Newton Tony wedding… Balanar heading back south to the walled city of Wilton, his home. When word filtered through travelers of Salisbury roads that a troop of Knights had been disappeared after ranging south in Dorset lands the hunter and tracker changed course to Sarum to offer his services. He had assisted in mapping the lands around Wilton, so he was more familiar with the south lands then most. Although his knowledge didn't extend to far into Dorset, he had a few trips along the border. Dorset was now a threat on his home, and he would do anything to protect it. He offer his skill of path finding and his bow to the Knights that had gathered for Earl Robert's call to arms. The man traveled separate from the other Knights, as was his station. But it also allowed him the freedom to more fully assess their path and journey. He was actual thankful for the heavy rains, as though it slowed them… it made their journey into Dorset lands a more shadowy affair. The man's ears pick up the sounds of construction and he starts to guide his mount off the trail.

Dalan sits astride his charger, Agrippa as summer rain rolls down his armor and soaks him to the bone. Still this was important. Important knights, servants of his lord, Earl Robert, and men worth of his respect as brother's in arms whether he knew them ore not were unaccounted for. It was the least Dalan could to volunteer to go and try and find them and hopefully bring joy or at least closure to their families. He rubs his charger's neck gently, and nods to Balanar, spurring his horse forward at a trot as they approach the sounds of construction.

While Brynmor didn't exactly volunteer for this mission, his father made certain that he was put on the list so that he may continue to make Steeple Langford proud! Or some rubbish like that. The handsome and valorous knight is already feeling miserable due to the long ride and then the heavy rain, feeling just a bit chilled and damp through his chainmail. Like usual, he trails behind the others, not in any rush to throw himself into danger. Guffud, his squire, however, looks eagerly around him with first wide, and then keenly narrowed eyes. He hopes to find something that the grown up knights have missed, so that he can be the hero that his own knight, Brynmor is! The hero that this team deserves! And what an unfortunate team this must be, if that were the case. With the falling rain dripping into the slits of his helmet, the already grumpy knight, made grumpier that he can't openly complain about /anything/ due to the stealthiness of this mission simply stares out ahead of them, uncertain if he likes the sound of coming from the dark. It's night, why are people still working! Brynmor is baffled.

Among those knights who volunteered for Earl Robert's mission is one who's only just earned his spurs: Sir Talfryn de Idmiston. He wears a cloak over all appropriate gear for such a mission into danger. The hood is up, to keep the rain off his head and body. The rain is miserable, certainly, but it will certainly make for a good story.

Talfryn rides high in the saddle, trying to spy what he can of whatever construction would be taking place in the rain or at night. "Odd that." he notes outloud. "Must be a furious rate of construction to not even stop during the rain… and at night."

Having been at the Idmiston and Newton Tony wedding to get acquainted with the location that he had moved to after transferring to the walled city of Wilton, Wilhelm was willing to volunteer to help with the infiltration and recovery of the missing men, and was ready to go in the morning.

With an oil cloak pulled over his armor, Wilhelm is no stranger to miserable rides in the cold rain, even in the warm months. The Horton knight hasn't dismounted yet, cautious and on guard as he leads the horse through the lit streets, a stark change from the dim light that they had to rely on during the ride to the manor. "Perhaps this will clear up by morning. And if not, at least we will have decent light to continue the travel." the young knight offers as he moves glances over towards the sounds of construction, even in the rain, there are those who continue their business.

However, even in this weather, such noises should have at least slowed at this time of evening. "Careful." he warns gently, perhaps unneccessarily, but Wilhelm is known for his prudent actions as he glances about the manor area as they approach, becoming more alert the closer they get.

Landon de Baverstock had offered his sword to Earl Robert's call for arms. There was something about rescuing meandering knights who failed to report in that had his sword drawn in amongst the first, for if he were ever in that situation he would hope others would do the same. Despite being the heir to Baverstock currently, with the marriage in order for Bryce, Landon was secure in his own leave. The lumbering 'bear' of a man in the back of the train of knights had been watching their six, riding on his charger Brute, with a gangly squire up ahead on a rouncy with the rest of his gear. Landon's suited up as it was, hood was down, so he could listen to the surroundings despite the rain soaking down to the padding and clothing underneath his chain. He pulls up as the group slows, sitting up straighter in the saddle to glance ahead.

Stealth is not his forte; stealth in the rain even less so. Broodingly miserable, Padrig travels in the middle of the small contingent of knights, draped in a cloak and gazing about with the fiery wrath of a man who "was not supposed to be here today." Nevertheless, he straightens in his saddle when they draw near upon a manor under - gods be thanked - the cloak of a rainy night, and he too nudges his mount off of the path as an extra precaution. "The smallest and quietest should scout up ahead and bring back word. This is rather suspicious."

"Same here, same. here." Brynmor mutters in Padrig's direction, mirroring the other knight's displeasure of being caught in the rain and some such. Though while he does not agree to this 'smallest' knight being set out, he does inquire in a quiet enough, yet annoyed tone, "Don't we have a scout with us?" He knows some of the knights in passing, but who is that other guy, Balanar.

"I'll scout ahead." Wilhelm offers. As wiry as he is, and his constant glancing around, the young knight is probably the best suited to doing so. "…I've got a decent eye and pretty good at staying down and low as needed."

Balanar is not necessarily small, though he wears unboiled leather… which provides an advantage over the heavy and rather noisey chainmail the Knights wear. Of course when a sword finally finds him… he will be wishing for the chainmail. Off the path he dismounts, tugging hooded cloak up so that he tries to ward off the rain. He catches word of the Knights discussing the sounds of construction that flit through the rain from near the manor. "Sirs.. I can range ahead and discovery this racket along with Sir Wilhelm. If I discover something dire I can whistle in the manner of…" Hm. What can he whistle in the manner of. "A nightingale…" As they are native to these lands and have a rather distinct warble.

"Balanar- " Talfryn begins- quiet. "You're a master hunter, aye? Think you could get close enough to get a good look and let us know what's happening?" The Idmiston says, putting hand up over to Wilhelm. "I have great faith in Balanar's skills." he notes simply, "He's a good man."

"If they are working even at this ungodly and wet hour, they will need copious amounts of light, We should be able to see them long before they can see us." Dalan says as he spurs his horse forward. When Wilhelm volunteers he nods. Clearly he's more graceful a man than the Lumox of Newton is and says, "Very well, but let us stay just a very short ways behind you, in case you find trouble." He looks then to Balanar, "Whistle of a nightengale. Got it."

Wilhelm nods, glancing back to the others. "Of course." Someone trusts Balanar, he's not going to argue, instead ranging back to the group to help keep watch on the flanks, and frowns slightly. Something definetly doesn't feel right in his bones about it all, but he can't put voice to it.

Landon isn't the type to go sneaking around either. His large frame would give him away as much as the chain would. So he settles forward with his forearm resting against the cantle of his saddle. He nudges up toward Brynmor, "What do you reckon they're up to?" He nods toward the faint sound of hammering that the others are scouting ahead to verify.

The Steeple Langford's eyes slightly at Landon's approach, but it's difficult to see through his helmet and more than likely his eyes have been blinded by raindrops that have made their way through. To the question posed, Brynmor doesn't take long to ponder on this, his shoulders lifting into a shrug, "Hopefully an Inn of sorts, then we can all filter in and have a good night's rest." That's the only thing on his mind at the moment. Still, he has his doubts that they should be so lucky and uncertain as to this merc's skills in scouting, he waits to see whether the workers and what not would be alerted by their presence here.

"A scout does his job better when he's not trailed by a herd of jingling knights in chainmail with chargers," Padrig says with a sigh, shifting in the saddle and raising a hand to stay Dalan. He pulls his charger off to the side and stops, watching the rest with a bland expression. "Balanar will scout ahead and report back. I suggest the rest of you check the security of your armor and the sharpness of your blades. Perhaps tie down anything loose and noisy that you can." For his part, Padrig settles back in the saddle and settles his gloves and helmet into place before loosening his shield from the side and sliding it over his arm. Ride prepared, yes?

Upon the scout's approach to the manor, he can easily notice that whatever they are building isn't meant to last; they seem rather like improvised execution platforms, with a stock already in place, while the other is being affixed to a pole. The Manor House also seems abuzz with activity, the words "execution" and "Salisbury bastards" shouted loudly before the cheering of a chorus. Someone also makes mention of a Sir Marshal, so certainly, whatever is taking place here has the strict consent of the Earl.

Balanar goes mostly unnoticed, but someone standing guard spots him, freezing in place for a moment. Only after the man is outside of his field of sight does this lookout run to the Manor House and starts knocking on the doors desperately. He is admitted inside, and soon enough all the noise from the House, that Balanar can still hear from a certain distance, dies down suddenly. For now.

His return to the group is unmolested and unworried but the tension is palpable in the air now.

Landon goes through his gear, his helmet still tucked against his gut, since it was harder to see in the damn thing when rain was falling as it was. However he had it, should it be needed. His sword was in reach and had been set to wetstone well before the trip. He nods toward Brynmor, "An inn. Hopefully with some sort of stew being made on the hearth. I could use a good bowl… starved." And he wasn't eating his supplies! Maybe he already had. He waits with the rest of the group for the scouts to return or to hear the whistle. Which ever came first.

The hunter returns with no added holes or chasing band after him. "They speak of execution… and are preparing some kind of… hanging platform…" he says with a hurried shake of his head. "They further speak of a Sir Marshal. It is clear your fellow Knights have been captured and Dorset is not pleased in any manner." the man glances over his shoulder at the sound of workers. "If you wish I can approach them as a travelling hunter. I wear no colors that would mark me as Salisbury. Perhaps I can gather more information? The nightengale can still be used as signal. If that is what you wish Sirs." He says, taking some intitiative, but of course defering to those who are truly in charge.

<OOC> Galahad says, "You hear the whine of horses, and faint shouts. You can't make out what they are saying, but there are certainly a lot of them right now."

"If they are working this late at night on completing a platform and gallows, then I doubt we need more information than that as they are probably in a rush til morn…" And then Wilhelm pauses, sitting up further in his saddle as he reaches to lift his helmet up and off his ears, turning his blue eyes in the direction from which Balanar has traveled. "…we will have company soon, I believe. And they will not be brining stew from the Inn, I fear." the young knight tugs his helmet back into place, and heeding the earlier advice, starts to make sure that his gear is ready, should the decision be made to advance or to lie in wait.

Landon sighs, "Stew would've been so nice…" He seems mournful of that opportunity as he slides on the helmet, knowing now that by his own ears, they were going to receive company and it wouldn't likely be friendly. He loosens his sword in his scabbard and looks toward where the sound was coming from, "We may be out numbered-" it sounded that way, "Or maybe they have loose gear and it makes them sound double in all this rain."

So the pair of knights, one ever sleepy and the other ever hungry, continue to linger around being pelted by the heavy blinding rain. Brynmor wasn't going to go ahead and carry his helmet, but it was making him all the more miserable with it being atop his head. "Stew, a saucy barmaid and of course a warm hearth and even better, a warm bed." He can imagine it all now, the crackling of that fire, the sweet aroma of a delicious stew and the sound of horses and shouting in the distan… Now, that didn't sound like part of the plan. Nor did Balanar's further news lighten up the situation at all. "Nope. It never ever turns out the way any of us would want. Ever." He emphasizes this fact all the while reaching for his weapon, knowing full well that the party was about to begin.

Quietly, Talfryn sits on the back of his horse. His shield ready, along with his sword. He seems rather distracted- not hearing much at all. He quietly touches his chest- something hidden under his clothing and readies himself for the worse at Wilhelm's words. "Steady." he says- perhaps to himself more than anyone else.

Dalan frowns but nods in agreement to Padrig and waits for Balanar's return. When he gives a report that they are building a gallows and talking of execution, his normally dopey face darkens gravely, "Honorless fiends." he says softly. Dammit war has rules, and Dorset clearly has no intention of honoring them. Dalan is setting his helmet and hasn't heard the other horses yet and he looks to Wilhelm and then Landon and says, "We are only outnumber if they brought nothing but knights." Dalan says as he draws his sword. I mean they are riding chargers, they are powerful but they are heavy and will not be outrunning riding horses if that's what they are on.

"I think it would be too risky to send you back, Master Balanar," Padrig replies, shaking his head quickly. "But thank you for being our eyes. You had better prepare for company, because I think they have followed." He leans his head down while checking that his sword is loose and ready to be drawn at a moment's notice and then frees up a spear for ready use. Beneath him, his mount paces back and forth in excitement knowing that his work is yet to come. He glances to Dalan and shakes his head once more. "We have three options: charge them now, prepare to meet them, or run. If we dither much longer, the choice will be made for us. I am for a charge, or for running and leading them a merry chase. What say the rest of you?"

Balanar's head sinks as the sounds of whining horses and shouts take on a different tone. Was he spotted? Were they riding out now. The man's hand flexes as he looks around and tries to think of something. "Stay here." he says firmly to the Knights. Far out of his place. Far from his station. He runs over to his mare giving the old girl pat that spooks her just a bit, ready to ride and fly. Hoping on the saddle the man pulls his horse back onto the road. "I can ride faster then any of you. I will draw some of them away. Take the chance to save your fellow Knights." he says as he readies his worn out spurs and darts the horse down the trail past the manor and the workers. He peers to the side to see what he can see as he does so.

Dalan nods to Sir Padrig "God favors the bold, good sir." He says as he sets his spear and forms up next to him ready to charge. He looks then to Balanar, "YOu are a brave man, may good gift your horse with the fleetness of Gabriel." He looks to his others as if to ask if they are ready.

Listening to the group talk, Brynmor keeps a very wary glance now down the path which their scout seems to be returning to. "It seems that our good merc has taken some matters into his own hands." Not that the Steeple Langford can complain too much, unless this backfires, then surely, he will speak up about it. Looking between the others now to gauge their reactions and hearing their own opinions, just to echo what was said, he murmurs unenthusiastically, "Sure, why not?" Muttermutter. His steed, Stone, however, feels about ready to race off, despite the rain the mud, the element of danger.

"Godspeed to you, Balanar." Whilhelm says to the mercenary as he volunteers to draw some away. As the scout takes off, he snorts at Landon's commentary. Since Balanar just took off, he's reluctant to agree to a running battle, should they lose track of the mercenary. "Sounds like the best plan of the day so far." the young knight comments as he draws in a breath. Any other pithy comments he may have on his mind, he stows as he defers to the others and Sir Padrig. "Ready at your word, Sir."

"Well, if there are brother knights trapped in that keep, we must do what we can to release them." Talfryn states simply- as he readies his blade. "Shall we, then?" he wonders of the others, nodding to Dalan and Padrig both. "Let us not tarry and turn our backs to danger. We know they are our enemy- that is all I need to know."

Nodding, Padrig pats the top of his helmet to be sure it is secure before he hoists up his spear and draws up the line for the other knights. His eyes follow Balanar briefly, and he utters a stream of foul words while shaking his head. Still, there are more pressing matters, and he turns his attention forward once more in the direction of the manor in preparation of a charge.

<OOC> Galahad says, "He's up next turn, no damage."

The old mare is fast, though likely because Balanar does not ride with a heavy pack or armor. Just leather, a bow and a spear. A simple compliment for a simple man. A simple man trying to do something a little crazy. He dashes past the front of the manor crashing through the rain as he does so. He whistles slightly to draw more of the Dorset Knights out, though is dismayed as only one Knight charges after him on horse. He is clearly faster, the horse riding low as it barrels down the trail leading the other Knight away from the manor. He glances back, trying to judge the distance and the heaviness of the rain to see if he can get the shot off. Too fast. Far too fast. He tugs his mount around, to face the charging Knight. He doesn't meet him mid lance, though his spear is held out. He bats away the first strike, but the second strike with the man's sword feels like it nearly takes his arm off. If only he had a shield. "Hut hut!" he calls out as he digs his spurs into his mount and dashes off once more. The least he can do is take this Dorset beast on a pleasant scenic ride. Hopefully the Salisbury Knights fight well…

It isn't that long of a wait before the advancing enemy becomes visible to Padrig, even through the thin slit in his helmet, even through the sheets of rain that have churned the earth around the manor into a mudpit. He lets out a fierce cry and digs in his heels, driving his charger forward in a surge of mud and adrenaline with his lance held poised for the charge. The initial meeting is quite the letdown as both mounts slip away from each other, taking away any power of inertia they might have used for a head to head clash.

Frustrated and furious, Paddy tosses away the lance and draws his sword with the ringing sound of vengeance. His charger wheels about and he bears down upon his enemy wherein the two become locked in a back-and-forth clash of swords and shields. Gerold manages to nick his upper shield arm, slicing through the chainmail, but Padrig returns this blow in tenfold; with a fierce cry, his sword cleaves through Gerold's chainmail and leaves a dark, jagged tear at the midway point between neck and shoulder sword-side. The wound begins to bleed quickly and freely, and the force of the blow sends the knight to the ground.

The Charge comes- and a rush of blood has Talfryn charging- then falling into the mud. His world a flash of hurt as he raises his shield to hear a *CLANG*. He's protected himself- at least, for the moment. He rolls, blade flashing as its pulled from its scabbard and he begins to swing at the opponent who's been grounded near him- swords flashing between the pair that seem to do little. His breath comes heavy, ragged under his helmet as his first *real* battle comes to bare and he continues the assault with a wordless war cry!

Brynmor looks good and ready for the initial charge, meaning, he has his lance out, at the very least. But his steed, Stone, races forward with the fury of a horse belonging to an incredible knight. Unfortunately, that knight is Brynmor. Leaning forward in his saddle, he braces for impact but luckily enough, Victarion's lance misses him completely just as the Steeple Langford's own strikes his opponent hard against the chest, sending the Dorset knight tumbling to the ground. Immediately, he brings his steed back, this time tossing down his lance and reaching for his sword! Which, seems to make matters all the worse, for while his opponent is at quite the disadvantage, it's still a hard reach to strike the guy from horseback and if Brynmor had his way, he would simply run Victarion down! With one lucky hit, the Dorset evens the playing field, forcing Brynmor off of his horse to fall into a rather painful heap on the ground.

It takes a moment for the blonde haired knight to struggle to rise, especially when even the hard, muddy ground felt so comfortable to lay on and if it not for the Dorset who now looms over him or the sound of clashing come from all around, he would have chosen to simply stay there in the muck. But no. With a shake of his head, to chase the ringing from his ears, he slowly lifts his sword in a clumsy attempt to defend himself against Victarion's incoming attack, the Dorset's own foot slipping in the mud and forcing him to stumble. What comes next is a clash of muddy, rather than blood swords, the pair exchanging blows, striking against shields in their own pitiful and futile attempt at gaining the upper hand. Brynmor is tired, he's wet and mud-soaked and just a bit sore. He knows that his opponent his hurting, especially after that initial blow, and he's annoyed that the has yet to take advantage of this fact.

The charging line is met between Salisbury and Dorset. And while most of the knights, strike true, one does not seem to have fortune on his side this day. The Dorset spear digs deep into Wilhelm's side and hip, finding deep purchase and shattering bone and muscle alike as the young knight is dehorsed and sent sprawling into the mud, overwhelming pain washing over him as he realizes that for the moment, his leg is betraying him. There's a sharp cry of pain, as the knight tries to find his feet, but his attacker presses on, and he has to go into a desperate defense to remain alive.

Somehow, in the mud and muck, the confusion and chaos, Wilhelm finds his hand on the foothold of his mount and manages to pull himself right. "…God.." he breathes in a shallow breath as the Dorset man comes in again, and the further the attack is pressed, the more desperate the battle becomes as Wilhelm cannot try to hold his wound while fighting. Knowing that he has to try to get a moment's rejoinder, but not trusting himself to stay on his horse to escape, he takes his blade in both hands to start smashing down on the Dorset man, but with his wound, it seems that Wilhelm can't get the weight and power behind the attacks that he needs to seperate Dorset from horse.

Landon's charge on Brute went well enough. Landon clashed in the intensity of rain with a shadow cutting through the curtain of water, against a man that held weapons to be a Knight himself. The shadow, which he wasn't aware the man was called Tyrion, soared out of his saddle and landed hard to the ground. In the eruption of fighting, Landon took in the scene to watch his six as he spurred back, sword unsheathed and giving a dull wet sound as he pulled it free and whisked the blade through the rain. He aimed that weapon toward the downed knight who got up in time to take a grazing swing. In the confusion as Landon gets in touch with his anger, the knight on the ground takes a swing in return but the Bear sends him to the ground. Yet he refuses to stay down. Their battle was one of survival and with both bloodied, it was hard to say who was going to come out the victor. At least for now, the Baverstock was on horseback… and his opponent rattled from being clobbered to the ground a couple times.

The young knight of Newton closes his eyes and utters a quick prayer, and then with his comrades at his flank spur's his charger, Agrippa forward. As the burst through the forest and the haze of the rain, spears meet sheilds, and the clash of the initial charge rings out like thunder striking in the heavens. And in that intial charge, the big knight's shield is crushed into his chest as he topples from the saddle.

Landing in the mud, Dalan punches the ground once in frustration, and draws his sword and raising up. Sir Eddard of Dorset rains down blows upon, trying to beat the young knight back down into the mud, but Dalan stands true. Eventually he finds an opening in his foe's barrage, but just as he starts to swing the more experienced knight stabs for his neck. Dalan barely gets his shield up in time to defend himself and has to abandon his strike.

One more slash with his sword to Gerold's face is enough for Padrig to finish off his opponent, and he leaves the knight to bleed out on the field as the Laverstock wheels about to quickly assess the situation. Some are down, some are wounded, some are fighting valiantly - but the one within closest reach who seems to be having a bad day is Wilhelm. "Sir Wilhelm, incoming," he cries out to warn his fellow knight that he shall be swooping down on Aidan; and indeed, it appears that the distraction is enough for him to score a small hit to the man's side as he deftly maneuvers his charger about in the slippery mud. Between the two of them, they manage to knock the knight unconscious before parting ways to shore up their fellow knights.

Two arrows go flying, the rain and the bounce of a horse causing them to wiggle in the air. Balanar is no Hun. He doesn't even know what a Hun is. So he doesn't shoot like a Hun, as he takes time to stop, draw the bow and let loose. He is quick though, enough to dart around and lead the Knight on the chase. He can see the Knight gaining though and once more his bow is hooked to his saddle and his spear is pulled forward. Sword is met with spear as the two fighters clash once more, though Balanar is woefully outmatched when it comes to arms and armor.

And the futility of the fight rages on with neither Brynmor nor Victarion making any progress whatsoever. Knowing very well /where/ he had hit the Dorset with his lance, the Steeple Langford tries to stab at that very same place with his sword, hoping to add to the pain and annoyingly keep poking at the injured spot. This would be a marvelous plan, if only he could reach that particular spot, but the fool (read: Wise) Dorset knight, continuously keeps his shield up, shifting and maneuvering his person out of Brynmor's reach so that the Langford's sword only meets shield and not hit sweet spot! "Look," He says between heavy breaths, the exertion of the battle clearly taking its toll, "You're bleeding out all over… under the mud. And neither you nor I really want to continue on. I'm giving you the choice of surrender, because seriously, we've been at this for way too long."

The Baverstock continues to battle against Tyrion. The other man refuses to go down. It's a back and forth clash of swords. Tyrion is fighting for his life and he knows it. Each time he gets thrown down, he comes right back up to meet the Baverstock's blade. Though Tyrion is taking hits, it's nothing that is stopping the man from getting back up and fighting. Landon is getting the edge, but it's very much an undecided battle yet. They're mortally locked together, sword clashing against sword.

Wilhelm was getting tired. He could feel his face becoming flush with exertion from the wound's trying effect with his own hard blows. However, he is aware enough to hear Padrig's call to him and pulls back just enough to allow the older knight to come in on a strike before he follows it up with his own. "…thank you for the assistance, Lord Padrig. He just did not know how to.. to .. accept no for an answer." the young knight offers, his face paled with blood loss. "Did you know that my sister makes the best bone marrow stew? It's simply divine." Yes, he might be feeling just a little light headed.

Fighting a man on horseback, Talfryn begins to get aggressive. He bashes with his shield as his opponent's blade falls, before quickly half-swording and using the cross-guard of his blade to catch the other man's armor and pull him off his horse. He presses the advantage when the Dorset man falls off the horse, but the man on his back's shield is stout and Talfryn's blade finds little purchase. The battle around him seems to smolder on.

The fight goes poorly for Sir Dalan, sir Eddard's sword slams into his shield like a blacksmiths hammer to the anvil. The sound of metal on metal clamoring into the night. The young knight cannot find an opening, and even though he is very strong, his strength cannot last forever and Eventually he loses the battle to exhaustion for just a moment. Leaving his side exposed. Eddard's sword comes down hard, tearing open Dalan's face and then ripping through his mail to open his chest. It's a blow that would kill most men and Dalan sags to knee. As his blood falls to the ground with the rain, he can see that his comrades have felled at least two of the Dorset knights and with and finding his strength he pushes to his feet and bellows defiantly, "It will take more than that to end Sir Dalan of Newton!" he says as he stands, raising his shield again.

<OOC> Galahad says, "Oh, and one thing."

Perhaps for the misfortune of the Salisbury knights, a man in his late twenties starts riding out alongside two more knights from the manor, ready to bolster the numbers of the Dorset knights. Geraint de Gillingham has a personal stake in this — the man the Earl of Salisbury killed was his brother.

Meanwhile, two men that Dalan and Talfryn might identify as their cousin and brother, respectively, are bound and taken towards the gallows. They appear beaten, dirty and bloodied, roughly shoved upstairs towards the gallows as they are placed in the stocks.

There is a defiant look in Sir Tomas' face as he stares at the guard, unwilling to surrender to the Dorset brand of justice. He stays on his feet, before one of his handlers beats him down with the blunt end of a spear, which the Idmiston replies to by withdrawing a knife from his boot and stabbing deep at the man's stomach; a fight ensues. The other, of course, is Sir Gwion de Newton. Seizing the opportunity left by his fellow knight, he reaches for the distracted guard's sheathed sword, drawing it and killing the man with a stab to the chest.

That sword bit into his back at a sharp edge, sheering flesh and muscle and sending the hunter tumbling from his mount. The rain has created a slick of mud in the tilled field and Balanar at least manages to roll face up and then roll onto his back so he doesn't drown in mud. He twitches as he feels his life force flowing out of him, his eyes staring up at the raincloud covered sky. He reaches up to that boiling grey, hearing the sounds of his mount slowly plodding off and away until his eyes roll up and he passes out.

Things go badly and quickly- fellows falling and retreating as he finds himself left alone on the battlefield. He thinks of Robert, he liege- and honestly, for a moment, his loyalty is shaken. Still, he fights on- sword flashing as he breathes. His life is on the line here. His brother's life. He goes to flank another knight, Victarion, to help his brother in arms. When Victarion goes down, Talfryn turns to find his horse.

Talfryn fights on, battling towards his horse- and unable to find a moment to mount as Geraint's attention turns towards Talfryn and Brynmor. Brynmor is able to mount- followed soon by Talfryn and the dash to escape begins- with a woop! He uses those spurs to gently urge his horse to speed.

It is a difficult fight, certainly one fraught with many dangers as the last knight of the original group of six pursuers falls by the combined might of Brynmor and Talfryn, three more join the fray. Dalan watches Gwion from afar, desperate to try and rescue his cousin, but something snaps inside and he feels resigned. Still, an opponent now attempts to engage him in a charge, and he manages to narrowly avoid harm's way as blows are exchanged with the foe. Swords clash, shields deflect blows that could have been lethal, and so far the Newton knight is holding his own valiantly.

Unfortunately, both Tomas and Gwion have killed the gaolers and this does not quite free them of their fate; archers fire arrows from the dark, just as two more guards surge up to them, this time fully armored and well-armed knights. After a brief exchange in which he plunges the dagger into the man's chest before he dies, Tomas is shot once again and then stabbed through the sternum, his gaze dimming as his eyes close and he slumps to the ground, fallen.

Gwion fights bravely as a son of Newton ought, and the sword he has stolen from his captive is sufficient to make him fell yet another guard before an arrow strikes him in the neck. Blood gushes from the wound, and the Newton man thinks of his wife for a moment before he slashes forward at one of the newcoming knights' neck, severing it from the rest of the body before another arrow leads him to the cold embrace of death. He murmurs his love's name as he passes on to Heaven.

Wheeling about, Padrig locates his next opponent: Eddard, who has just landed a horrible but not fatal blow to Dalan. "On your right," he shouts toward the man before slashing out with his sword as her rides by, using the grip of his thighs and a tug on the reins to keep his charger from surging forward too hard or too fast. The blow lands successfully, driving through the chainmail before the tip of his weapon gets wedged between the knight's ribs. With a grunt of effort he yanks it free and draws himself out of range to line up a better angle. He does not yet see the men in the distance at the gallows, too distracted in his present attempt to keep the rest of his group alive. Instead, with a grunt of effort Padrig drives his sword once more between Eddard's ribs and renders the man deceased upon the spot.

Wheeling about, Padrig finds that their group is being charged upon by yet another trio of knights, and he finally has a chance to catch sight of the men fighting on the scaffold beyond. He conjures a momentary fury at the sight, but not knowing either of them, he is unable to sustain the rage. Instead, the Laverstock knight spins his charger around and meets his next foe - Geraint - whose skill with the sword is arguably better than his. A furious flurry of blows drives Padrig onto the defensive, and it is all he can do to keep the man from hacking away his limbs. Realizing he is well in over his head, Padrig urges his charger to break away, dodging a swing and escaping into the cover of the fray to disengage.

As he gallops away, Padrig leans out and snatches up the reins of Wilhelm's horse, towing the unconscious man behind him as they make a break away from the skirmish and toward safety.

The fighting rages on just outside of the Manor, and Sir Geraint musters his lackeys to finish the job six other knights of Dorset couldn't. When he is beset by Brynmor and Talfryn, he exchanges blows with them in vain, receiving a slash for his troubles. But then Brynmor disengages, leaving him alone with Talfryn, and while he tries, it seems that the Idmiston's defense gets the better of him, for now.

After Landon is felled by him, Mathin departs the field.

The Baverstock was in pitched battle against Tyrion, their back and forth battling was finally turning a tide when Tyrion kept being thrown down against the leverage that the Baverstock had on his massive chargen. Finally, Landon's sword cleaved through the man's armor and found soft flesh that ended the knight, sending him to the ground in a gurgling pool of blood. Landon could only manage a breath as he found himself being charged at by Mathin… He wasn't exactly prepared…

The charge of his enemy was successful. Mathin's lance found purchase and threw both horse and man over. The horse came down on top of Landon's leg, which made the knight yowl into his bucket helm. Thankfully, he avoids for now the thrashing of the animal's hooves as Brute frightens and leaps up onto his legs. Though Mathin wasn't so fortunate to spoke. Time and time again, Mathin came at the younger knight, beating him down with a sword… Landon tried to run toward a horse, but it shot him one in the chest, wheeling him back into the range of Mathin's horse. Then another blow from the Dorset knight. The Baverstock was doing the best he could to scramble to find purchase against the other man, but each time his blows kept coming and the exhaustion from the previous fight and the amounting injuries got the best of the Baverstock.

All at once there was nothing he could do to keep the other's sword from running him through. He felt it, the sharp metal rending his insides apart as it thrust through meat and bone. He looked up to match eyes with his killer. He didn't even know the man's name… Ahh, the world grew black so quickly… sword dropped from his hand as the bear fell with a loud thud, motionless as he hit the ground, his own blood pooling around him in the storm.

As the battle continues on, things have taken a turn for the worst for the Salisbury knights. Several of their own have been downed, even if one of them, the merc was nowhere to be seen during most of this. Or that's what Brynmor had thought. He was either slain or made a hasty retreat early on. The struggle against Victarious was real and if it were not for Talfryn's aid, the Steeple Langford very well may still be fighting that particular knight, but with the both of them taking turns against the man, the Dorset knight wasn't about to succeed. His @%$$^& opponent finally downed, this gives Brynmor a little repreive from the fighting and he even acknowledges Talfryn with a nod. Finally, he's able to take in the entirety of the scene, watching their own knights fighting for their own lives up on the gallows and then realizing that the knights he had come with, even their numbers have dwindled, remebering watching as Padrig took off with the Horton in tow.

To make matters worse, Sir Geraint has his eyes set upon both he and Talfryn with the Salisbury pair struggling to find a horse to make their own escape. Then from out of the corner of his eyes, he sees one of their members fall and here he calls out to his fellow knight, "There4's no way in Hell that we're going to survive this. We need to pack it up, take what we can and just go." Even if that means, packing up an unconscious person right out there in the middle of battle. With those words spoken, the Famously Prud— Lazy knights breathes out a heavy sigh, "I'm going to regret this aren't I?" He mutters, before quickly avoiding Geraint's next advances, thus leaving Talfryn, unfortunately, to fend for himself. "I'm so not doing this. I'm so not doing this." Is his mantra for the moment, but with the famous knight's sights no longer set on him, he makes a mad dash in the direction of the fallen Baverstock, hoping that the others Dorset knights aren't keeping an eye out on him.

The mad dash to escape comes, and Talfryn urges his horse onward. "Faster, Tan, faster!" he urges his mount as they get out into night. He's quick to catch up to Brynmor, riding beside the man towards their camp- towards life for another day. The sight of his brother flashes across Talfryn's memory, and he grips the reins of his horse all the tighter.

The first thing that Brynmor does after he separates from Talfryn is secure himself a damn horse. This he does use as some kind of cover as he makes a quick approach to the Baverstock. With a shake of his head, he doesn't look enthused by what he must do next at all. "You are going to owe me big time." He speaks to the unconscious and after a few failed, if somewhat hilarious attempts at finding the best way to grab ahold of the much larger knight, using all of his might and most likely adrenaline from the stress of being caught by the enemy, he is finally able to heft the Baverstock up and onto the rear of his sword after much of a struggle. With a heavy breath, he then mounts the beast himself, and and in some confusion, loses sight of there the camp should be. But it is the presence of his overly eager squire, Guffud, standing out in the trees like a rescue beacon that leads the brave, courageous and handsome Steeple Langford towards the safety of their own people. And hopefully, there will be a pretty young healer there to chat up… but nevertheless, he does ride off with a heavy, and somewhat annoyed heart.

Balanar lays in the churning mud, clueless of the men who stand above him. Clueless if they argue about spearing him or slitting his throat right then and there. He wears no colors, wears no surcoat. No Coat of Arms or Heraldry protects him. They could end him without any regard as they owe him nothing. For some reason they take him, likely dragging him by the hair or some other painful mode of transportation as he is captured by the Dorset dogs to likely join the Salisbury Knights in the noose or under the fall of the axe.
