Gideon actually had a fairly decent first round, so it is perhaps with a bit of overconfidence with which he engages his second opponent, who seems to be more weathered in experience and years. Although Gideon finds the matter of tourneys so much frippery, it is his loyalty to the Earl that compels him forward. He trades spear for sword with the knight for several rounds before he finally splits it just below the point, forcing Gideon to disengage. The horse up to this point seems to be agreeable, which is when Gideon lets his guard down. The hated beast, siezing the opportunity to betray Gideon, rears at the last moment, sending both sword and Gideon flying and absorbing the full force of the impact. Alec seems to have forgotten his job, as he seems too busy starting into a servant wenches bosom instead of fetching his knight his spear. "They will never find your remains." He glares at the boy.
