Title: RL December Events
Posted: Dec 07 2015
Author: SirKay

Our time ratio is one season per month. I was planning on starting the IC spring come our RL January. Was not sure of the growth of this place either. People have wanted Pendragon for ages, but no one ever did it. We seem to be springing to life pretty well for a never mu*ed genre (that I am aware of, not since '94 or so). My opening events were planned for Janury - or the PCs Spring 514. But seeing this much interest in just one day, this needs to change.

Consider the time between now and January as an active Winter Phase, or if you like, some activity in the fall just before winter. Most of you should be hunkering down for winter, tending your manor or your home, dealing with people around your land, complaining about miserable cold and such, dealing with that cough so it doesn't lead to death and what not (can't go to CVS and get nyquil). However, visiting each other (we all live a few miles apart, 10 miles at most east to west) and traveling to the castle/Sarum for one day can happen. Some knights may be on garrison at Earl Robert's castle in Sarum at this time as well. I will plan on doing some event within the week to really give people something to do as a sort of Welcome. As well, you are welcome to PrP's on a minor scale; lost saxon raiders not from Sussex/Kent/Messer or Wight but the mainland, winter bandits, curious visiting knights from other lands, wandering beast foraging during winter, and so on.

Title: Early Winter Tourney and Feast
Posted: Dec 08 2015
Author: SirKay

Earl Robert is returned form the courts of Arthur with news, this spring is the wedding of Arthur and Gwenevere, daughter of King Leodegrance of Cameliard. The union between the two forged four years prior as Arthur helped defend Cameliard against King Ryons of Norgales now cemented by this bond of marriage. There is to be a wedding and tournament come early spring in the age old city of Carlion to bring these two realms together.

The Earl bids his vassals come to Sarum to share in this news, regale the year prior, and compete for honors in the coming tournament. Earl Robert is to take the vanguard in the grand melee, Logres counties against those allies and realms of King Leodegrance. Young knights are welcome to compete in personal challenges to see who is the better amongst them. Those who excel will be given the honor to join Robert's group in the grand melee at the wedding tourney.

This early winter tourney of Sarum will include other events a quick round robin joust, archery in the courts of the castle, falconry for contributions to the feast, but the focus will be on the glory of swordsmanship at this tourney. The best of the young knights will be afforded the opportunity to challenge the venerable Sir Jaradan to personal combat. This challenge is only for glory and honor, no other stacks may be wagered. A hunt for those young knights who do not advance in the personal combats will proceed on the final day of challenges.

OOC: An event to kick us off, prepare for the upcoming big events in spring of 514. Something to help folks get a feel for the system for those who wish to learn it, and a precursor to the style and manner of tourneys, feasts, and such festivities. Keep an eye to +events for more details to come.

Title: Embassy to Lonazep
Posted: Dec 16 2015
Author: Aeron

The Earl has tasked Sir Aeron to gather a contingent to ride to Lonazep and meet with Count Ioan on the earl's behalf. Count Ioan is to compete on the side of Logres during the upcoming Melee, but has yet to send plans to the Earl, perhaps because of jealousy that Salisbury was chosen as Vanguard. The mission is one of diplomacy, and would require traveling across the kingdom in the winter months. Those interested in joining the embassy should contact Aeron.

This has the potential of disqualifying those joining the mission from other tasks that may pop up over the the winter months!

Title: Missions

Okay, some court today already, a couple of missions passed out. Folks are looking to recruit into them. I don't want court limited to evening/day folks. I've a couple more missions, if night folks get a group together for a mission on their own, I can divy up other things to do. Just get a few folks together, let me know who's sort of over seeing, and I'll work with them to help get you through some sort of mission.

These are for the next couple weeks, anytime during 'winter' outside the tournament.

Title: The Festival of Candles
Posted: Dec 28 2015
Author: Arian
Description of the Festival Grounds:

Stonehenge is a massive site of frostbitten green. The standing stones themselves create a semi-enclosed circular space of thirty-three meters in diameter. Within the ring of massive stones is the altars — five pi-shaped structures set in an elongated semi-circle. This space has been concentrated with oil-scented fires and fresh evergreen laurels have been strung across the altars. The priests and the priestesses occupy this space, going through the day-long rites of Imbolc to draw forth Brigid and bless the coming spring.

Outside the circular stones is where the true celebration is happening. In a space that is one-hundred meters in diameter, circled by a high mound of well-shaped dirt and grass, the bonfires burn. One bonfire for each cardinal direction blazes hot and bright, having been built the day before and stoked to life by late morning. Grass that had been lightly sheathed in ice glistens with melted waters, and steam as the heat draws them from their winter sleep. This space is where the dances will take place at sundown.

The feasting and drinking remains in the camps that have been erected outside the shaped mound. Families mix and mingle, and no space is exactly private save for the outer edges of camp.

Rituals Taking Place:

A firstborn lamb has been selected from those brought by the gathered families. This lamb will be washed, blessed, and then sacrificed so its blood can be mixed with fresh ewe milk for the divination. This is done in the altar space with the priests and priestesses, and what the Goddess Brigid has decreed will be announced at the sunset rites (which will take place at 5:30 EST).

Offerings are being left at the heel stone where hundreds of oil-rubbed candles already burn brightly. A candle is left with a prayer to the Goddess to banish winter and bring forth spring. There are large, shallow bowls left out for offerings to be left. Such offerings are often nuts, evergreens, the last wheat, pitchers of raw milk, and other fruits, vegetables, and grains that have survived the winter stores.

At sunset, the whole of the camp will be gathered in the bonfire space for the full ritual of Imbolc. After that, the dances will begin.

Attire options:

The level of attire is based entirely on the depth of faith. While Romans write about skyclad heathens, an interloper would be hardpressed to find a naked Pagan. Men and women often choose simple attire, bringing them closer to the earth. Most simply wear undertunics and furs — breeches on the men, of course. This allows the nobility and commonfolk to blend more easily with one another — a silent nod to the understanding that before the Goddess, none stands higher than the other. Newborn blooms are often woven into hair, or tucked into belts. Pale yellow ribbons are also used as accessories to represent the newness of the world. Those who are a bit more modest still wear their blaises and overtunics.

Thanks to the heat of the bonfires, bare feet are often fairly common.

OOC: Hopefully this helps guide some RP! The Imbolc Ritual will start at 5:30 EST. After that, it'll be dancing, favor-giving, and other fun. :) Here's the link to the Paganism page with more information under festivals: http://knightlytales.wikidot.com/paganism#toc5

Title: Wedding

Author: SirKay
The wedding is under way, amongst the festivities there are two big things that will be going on throughout the week. Once again, we are no limited our events to one time of the day, we do not want anyone to loose out. The first few days of the week, folks are allowed to ask their liege for gifts. Every knight is allowed to ask Arthur for something. Consider your station before you ask, consider what you reasonable make in a year and could potentially afford yourself, you make 6 librum a year, you easily spend 2-4 on keeping your household running, horses living, gear taken care of, etc. I'll get up a few items and their prices on the wiki when I have a moment to help folks. The second thing is something that happens during the wedding in the literature and folks can witness the event that unfolds. This is for later in the week, thrusday through the weekend.

Otherwise the week now in Carlion (sorry I've said Cameliard a few times, which is where Gwen and her dad are from) is festive, dancing and the like, normally wedding atmorpshere things for the celebration of the wedding. And yes, hunting and such for the numerous feasts that will take place.

'Tis the season, it would appear. With such a prestigious wedding in the air and the slight ease of the looming Saxon threat… families are wishing more and more to see the next generation.

And certainly, there is no desire to detract from the festivities in Carlion, so the banns have only been posted on a limited basis. Perhaps even after the bulk of the parties traveling have left. A surprise, perhaps, awaits a few upon their return.

The Households of Burcombe and Pitton have chosen to further solidify a fledgling alliance by announcing the arranged betrothal of Sir Merryn de Pitton to Sir Rozenn de Burcombe. Banns can be found within Burcombe, Pitton, and Sarum proper; any beyond will wait for the wedding of the King to be well past.

OOC: This is for folks that did not go to the wedding, plenty of opportunities there for things to do. This is also a US daytime mission. Players around during this time interested in joining such a mission should contact them, they will coorinate a small group on a first come first service basis. Times to be arranged when there is a group willing to complete this mission.

Title: Trouble in Sarum
Posted: Jan 30 2016
Author: SirKay
As some have noticed, there has been increased saxon activity. Reports of Saxons near Tilshead, in Marlboro, the raid on Buckholdt, the scouting mission to the southeast. It came at the end of spring. A large band of saxons laid seige to Sarum. There was enough warning to get some into the city walls, others rallied to Wilton. On the morning of June 20th, the seige came. Jaradan was in the city and lead a brave group of Knights into battle near the Farmer's Market, against ceorls wielding great spears. Minimal deaths to the knights and the enemy was routed after nearly three hours of battle.

Meanwhile, once Lord Earc had a sizable force, he marched to the west gate, arriving just after the gate was breached, he engaged the mounted warriors there before theyncould enter the city. In the aftermath, he sent riders tomcheck again on Wilton, and around to the east gate. They soone discovered that Jaradan had stopped the advance inside. The mission to Marlboror proved a sucess, later that day, the forces of Marlsboro arrived and joined other knights of Salisbury to drive Saxons from the east gate as well. Losses suffered, it wa a victory in the end.

OOC: Fires happened inside the city and out. Citizens in need of help. In the wake of this, folks can rp in the coty after this happened. Folks that missed the event can help with other duties/PrP for non-combat. Combat folks can certainlynchase down bands of saxons. Very good reason to get in touch with came for his plots coming up. Just because two big (small) battles happened doesnt mean this was it.

And so word travels through all of Salisbury that Sir Cynfarch, current Head of Dinton and Sir Bryce, young Head of House Baverstock announce the betrothal betwixt Sir Cynfarch's daughter Lady Lysanor and Sir Bryce himself! The future husband of Lady Lysanor is no stranger to Dinton Manor, having squired there with Sir Cynfarch. Both families have been close allies in past and present.

A date for the nuptials has not yet been set, but a wedding in late fall or next spring seems likely.

A rather quiet announcement that has been slowly making it's way through Sarum and lands around it, is the recent news of a joint match between Laverstock and Winterbourne Gunnet.

The surprising part was that the match was announced during a time where the husband, Lainn de Laverstock was not even in the area, and rather was off on a mission with fellow knights to deal with a recent Saxon threat. Some think that his father, Sir Galalloc, and current steward of Laverstock manor, did this intentionally.

None can say at the moment, but what is known is that an agreement was reached between Sir Galalloc of Laverstock and Sir Corraidhin of Winterbourne Gunnet to match Sir Lainn with Lady Miruan de Winterbourne Gunnet. As to a wedding date, none has been announced, but ome predict either a winter or spring wedding.

After the loss at Severn Valley, the forces of Norgales, Cameliard and Salisbury have pushed King Belinans back to Red Castle. This large keep has been long held by the chief of the Cydewian Tribe in the hills of Powys, an ally and vassal of King Belinans. With the hill tribes, knights of powys and irish sell swords from the western coasts of Cambria, the rebellion made its last stand here. The seige of the castle took part for the better half of a day, with the first gate won after noon. Battle ensued in the inner ward while the middle gate was seiged. Before evening, the middle ward was breached and as the combined forces of Logres and her allies battled, King Belinans road out with his knights before evening.

Word percolates out from the Salisbury camp that a small party of Salisbury knights returned from Dorset well after nightfall. Sir Bradwyn de Idmiston drove a heavy cart laden with supplies intended for the enemy past startled sentries. Two heavy draft horses delivered to the stables, numerous shields, weapons, arrows, and wheels of good cheese ended up in Sarumite hands. Gossip spreading in the morning among squires says Sir Elrick de Laverstock returned with a knight to ransom, and Sir Padrig de Laverstock and Sir Idris de Bodenham both had to carry in a badly wounded Dorset knight who still looked like he was ready to spit tacks or breathe fire, depending on the storyteller.

Title: Summer Tourney Horse Race

Author: Eirian
The results for the Sarum summer tourney are still being tallied and calculated as the jousts and duels continue on, but at least one event came to a thrilling conclusion over the weekend. Two concurrent horse races for knights and for other participants.

The ladies kept neck and neck through the course outside Sarum, with ladies Amalthea and Heulwen de Dinton, Eilla de Idmiston, and Elwen de Ford ran neck and neck until the very end, when Lady Elwen broke away at a gallop on her horse to win by a nose.

Sarum's knights gave a delightful display of horsemanship, bravery, and finesse when weaving through obstacles laid across the course. Only one knight was unhorsed, and finished the race after successfully gaining his seat again. Logs, branches, and even scarecrows failed to deter a healthy field of riders from several houses. Quick off the starting line, Sirs Ceiriogwen de Brunton, Wilhelm de Horton, and Elrick de Laverstock broke out to an early lead that they never surrendered. At times the riders were neck and neck, being hotly pursued by their fellows. Crowds thrilled to a close finish, though Sir Horton pulled away in the last yards to seize the winner's flag.

For the final results, Lady Elwen de Ford won the first round, followed by Lady Eilla and Lady Amalthea in a tie. For the knights, Sir Wilhelm de Horton won, and Sir Elrick and Sir Ceiriogwen tied for second in a dead rush after him. Many cheers were had.

Joining the impressive showing of the siblings in various events, apparently there has also been an alliance forged between the Northern Manor of Horton and the Southern House of Newton as the new heir of Newton, Sir Joachim de Newton has been blessed in union with Lady Lydia de Horton.

There was talk of fish as part of the dowry, but surely that was made in humor. And with the new heir having to learn his duties quickly, their wedding is planned for the beginning of the harvest season so that the Lady may learn her duties as well before the first snowfalls.

As the Summer Tournament wears down to the close, the Autumn Equinox brings about yet another match, as a puppy that lost it's way brought together a match between a Pagan and a British Christian with an open mind and blind eyes.

As one Horton Lady heads towards the Roman Christian home of Newton, the second Horton sister, Lady Enfys de Horton has been betrothed to Sir Yorrick de Cholderton, an applicant for Huntsman of Earl Robert, with their wedding to take place during the Equinox celebration.

With Autumn fast approaching and the Autumn Equinox celebrations begin to be planned in Pagan lands, yet another marriage is announced- oddly, between the Roman Christian house of Newton and the Pagan house of Idmiston.

Sir Talfryn de Idmiston, Heir to Idmiston and Lady Bryn de Newton have announced their intention to wed, and bring their great houses closer together in alliance. Their wedding is to take place just before the Equinox celebrations.
